Does DSL or Cable internet require you to pay for Telephone or Cable service?
I just moved and need to get internet, but no longer need to have a home phone. I have satellite TV so I don't need cable television either. Do either the DSL or Cable internet require me to subscribe to one of their services?
Answer:
Best of both worlds. Cable for the internet only and Satellite for TV...

I used cable from the phone company and used their phone service to connect, but i was able to choose if i wanted to use them or some other phone company. i go thru mediacom and i just have a modem. I like that because i also do not need a land line. i use my cell phone as my main phone.. If you must get a a land line get the one that has no features. just a dial tone. its cheaper that way!

Being a comcast cable customer, no you do not need to have other products (i.e. phone). But, being a "cable" internet service - you will need to pay for a cable line in order to have cable internet (they use the same cable that is for your cable tv for your internet). So, in your situation where you have satellite internet and probably a mobile phone - you should just get DSL.

For cable, phone service is generally not required for internet access. I don't know about DSL.
While some satellite providers do provide internet capabilities, my last information (it's a year or more old) indicates that you can't VPN on it (this generally equates to "get onto your company's network from home").
In our case, we didn't even have a land line, instead using our cell phones and Vonage to meet our phone needs.

Well, I have Time Warner cable here. I pay .00 a month and I have Roadrunner (DSL) on 3 computers, digital phone with unlimited long distance, and cable tv on 4 tv's in my home. Verizon is also offering DSL internet nowadays.

It depends.. you may not have to subscribe to any additionally services depending on who your provider is AND what region of the country you live in. You may be able to get only Internet service, without Phone or TV.
Example Verizon offers a pure Data line (in most regions) that is you get just get a DSL line over an existing phone wire without the need for any traditional telephone service. Some Cable companies offer similar choice with cable.
Sadly many cable providers looking for maximize profits, insist you obtain a minimum cable package usually + Internet .
If you can get DSL its cheaper. Check with all the available local providers (cable, DSL ) and see what packages they offer.

If you already have a phone service and you get the DSL with that same company then no you don't have to Pay Any extra for phone service but you stall have to pay money for DSL.
Comment:
In the U.S., you generally are forced to pay for a "line charge" that is about /mth extra if you don't use the cable/dsl company that you get the service from for cable or phone. It's that way with Charter, AT&T(Ameritech, SBC, etc...)

dsl is also a cable internet connection...
when you pay your regualar telephone bill it is separated to dsl(internet connection) so you pay separate account but using one connection... dsl require telephone connection...
there is also a satellite internet connection it is wireless...
so your better choice is to have connection in satellite internet connection since you don't want phone connection...

No you do not need to have either, but it is more expensive to have DSL without POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) than with it. The cheapest I have seen without a telephone is about \mo for 1.5mb DSL.
You can get Cable internet without TV or VoIP (phone service). You can get Cox for as little as \mo for 7686.
The other solution is satelitte for around \mo, but the equipment is 0 to 0.
